Native Americans in canoe theme

The final four Camp Semialachee patches all show a native chief Standing in a canoe being paddled by a brave. This iconic image has a historical basis. As part of the order of the arrow tap-out ceremony, Semialachee Lodge #239, would hold a historical pagent in the council ring during the family visitor night. At its conclusion a very impressive event would occur as canoe would paddle across the cypress lined lake with a fire in the bottom of the canoe illuminating the standing chief. On arrival he would then tap out the canidates for induction. There is one memorable story told how once the fire got loose and actually burned a hole in the wood & canvas canoe causing it to sink before arrival and the tap out team had to wade ashore without losing what dignity that they managed to preserve during this spectacle.
